About Rack & Quack Campground

Rack & Quack Campground is a private, hunter-focused campground that caters to hunters and fishermen alike, situated along the beautiful Mississippi River near Hanover, Illinois. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, this is the perfect place for you. Established on generations of family tradition, this fishing campground was created to provide outdoor enthusiasts and their families with a true home away from home.

Our connection to this land dates back to the 1970s. For decades, our family has spent seasons here hunting, fishing, boating, and gathering around campfires along the river. These years have not only shaped our love for the outdoors but also instilled in us a deep respect for the land, wildlife, and the local community.

When the original campground closed, the sense of belonging it offered vanished. Hotels and short-term rentals never replaced what was lost — the friendships, traditions, and the tranquil rhythm of life that comes from returning to the same outdoor enthusiasts campground year after year.

Rack & Quack Campground was established to restore that cherished experience.

This is not a party campground or a large public development. It is intentionally designed as a peaceful, well-managed, seasonal campground with full hookups, clear rules, and a strong emphasis on respect for neighboring properties, public lands, wildlife, and the local hunting culture.

With public hunting and fishing land nearby, a public boat ramp just steps from the gate, and direct access to the Mississippi River corridor, Rack & Quack offers a rare opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in the way it was meant to be experienced.

Above all, our goal is simple: to preserve a place where traditions continue, stories are shared around the fire, and families can return year after year.

Welcome to Rack & Quack Campground — rooted in tradition, built for the outdoors.

Welcome to Rack and Quack Campground Our plan/ our dream

Our goal is to have 45 to 60 lots by 2030

Development Phasing Plan

The campground will be developed in a phased approach to ensure controlled growth, minimal environmental impact, and proper infrastructure installation.

Beginning April 1, 2027, the project will add 15–20 fully serviced sites per year over a three-year period, for a total of approximately 45–60 sites upon completion.

During the initial phase (2026–2027), work will focus on site preparation, including the removal of existing trailers, selective tree clearing, grading, and returning the property to a clean, build-ready condition. This phase will also include planning and trenching for underground utilities, including water, electric, and septic systems.

If site conditions and infrastructure allow, a limited number of campsites may become available in Fall 2026 at a prorated seasonal rate as an early soft opening.

This phased approach allows for responsible land management, efficient installation of utilities, and a gradual increase in occupancy while maintaining the quiet, private, and nature-focused character of the campground.

Our Amenities

Our private campground is designed for comfort, space, and peace of mind. Each site offers generous lot sizes, full septic service, and an upgraded well system for excellent water pressure.

Guests enjoy secure keycard gate access, with a boat ramp just 400 feet away for fishing, boating, and relaxing days on the Mississippi River. A beautiful sand beach is only a short boat ride away.

On the property, you’ll find a playground, a pavilion for gatherings, and a dedicated archery range. We’re also perfectly located—9 minutes from public hunting land, 8 minutes from Chestnut Mountain, and 15 minutes from Hanover—making it easy to enjoy everything the area has to offer while still feeling tucked away in nature.

Our Plan for the Landscaping

My wife and I both have extensive experience in landscape design and construction. We plan to work closely with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to introduce native trees, wildflowers, shrubs, and other beneficial plantings throughout the property.

Water features and plant design are a true passion of ours, and that commitment to land stewardship and natural beauty will be reflected across the entire campground. Our goal is to enhance the landscape while supporting wildlife, pollinators, and long-term environmental sustainability.
